The Darvon Recall that recently happened to have affected a lot of people. Medical experts has problems treating mild to moderate pains fifty years ago. Aspirins and narcotics were the only option which happens to be a problem. This is because aspirin is relatively weak while narcotics are dangerous and can be addictive. Good news happened on the year 1957 when Darvon or Darvocet was introduced and approved by the FDA. Darvon is a mild synthetic opiate which helps in relieving mild to moderate pains. This is a much better substitute for using narcotics because it doesn’t have strong addictive properties. For a long time, it has been happily used by a lot of people in the United States because it was the most widely prescribed painkiller. Naturally, the Darvon recall came as a shock and a problem to most people. Now, what was really behind in the recalling of this product?

This recall all started because the FDA found out that the use of propoxyphene has some serious complications. A user is believed to develop heart problems from using Darvon. Heart arrhythmia can be a possible heart problem to Darvon users. Cardiac arrest and sudden death can result from heart arrhythmia which is characterized by irregular heartbeat. This drug produces a lot of side effects. Examples are skin rash, mood changes, headache, and difficulty breathing. Furthermore, it has also been judged to be the cause of 589 overdosed deaths in 23 United States cities.

A lot of people think that this Darvon FDA recall request happened quite late because the advocacy group Public Citizen has been lobbying for the product to be banned for almost three decades. Public Citizen first made a petition on the year 1978 and followed on the year 2006. Actually, in the year 2005, Britain has banned this product. It happened around 2009 for the European Union.

Darvon Recall is surrounded by a lot of issues. This recall has made a lot of people panic on what they need to do. Everybody still needs to know a lot of information. These information is available in Darvon Recall Center.
