Resveratrol is a compound found mostly in the skins of red grapes. Ko-jo-kon, and Oriental medicine, uses Resveratrol as its main ingredient. Ko-jo-kon is in an Asian medicinal compound that is used in the treatment of heart diseases as well as blood vessel disorders and liver diseases.

The therapeutic benefits of Resveratrol are discussed in depth in several Resveratrol reviews and include the possible antioxidant, anticancer and phytoestrogen effects of the supplement. Even though all the research shows quite a lot of promise, the results are not yet accepted in the wider medical community. However, products and supplements that do contain Resveratrol are not known to have any harmful effects on those who have taken them.

Resveratrol is abundant in red wine because the grape skins are left on quite long during the fermentation process. Several studies have suggested in recent past that consuming red wine daily will lower the symptoms of coronary heart disease and this is linked to research that shows that wine contains the compound Resveratrol.

As mentioned, here have been several studies that suggest the effectiveness of resveratrol as being an antioxidant. It is also suggested to assist in lowering bad cholesterol. Due to the fact that Resveratrol is made up of high levels of lipophilic and hydrophilic properties it is thought by some as a more potent antioxidant agent then vitamin C and E. However not all of the reports are favorable, epicatechin and quercetin are additional antioxidant agents found in red wine and some say that they can be even more useful than the compound Resveratrol.

Although not yet proven scientists say that “they believe [resveratrol] might do more than just protect the heart, but could in very high concentrations significantly extend life by preventing a number of age related illnesses”. In response Dr. Christoph Westphal has said that if the research pans out this compound could actually change healthcare as we know it.
