You can find out if you have psoriasis, as your skin will exhibit rough, red, scaly patches. The medical society has yet to decide if psoriasis is an infection or allergic reaction. A person suffering from psoriasis is highly self-conscious and physically uncomfortable. In some severe cases, the person ends up wearing clothing that completely covers their body to hide the affected areas.
The issue of psoriasis can be treated, and there are several different options for doing so. The following is a list of different soothing measures you can take to help calm or even cure the psoriasis.
1. Re-hydration with direct water treatments is highly recommended. Taking a swim or soaking in the tub can help reduce the itching and swelling, it will also help to soften any areas that are scaly, so that the scales may be easily removed. Always remember that hot water can aggravate your condition by increasing the itching, so keep the water luke warm.
2. Prolonged soaking in a bath will remove the oils from your skin, so post bath lotions will become necessary to replenish the moisture. Moisturizing not only helps in reducing inflammation and preventing dry skin but also helps in keeping psoriasis under control.
3. Pay close attention to the type you choose. Some soaps are harsh and can further dry out your skin. A mild soap with added moisturizer will actually help in soothing your skin.
4. With weather changes, humidity or lack there of can become an issue. A room humidifier is a good option incase it is dry and hot weather.
5. Psoriasis can be further aggravated by certain medications, like lithium, beta-blockers, and anti-malarials, to name a few. Make sure to let your doctor know if you are suffering from psoriasis, before taking any new medications.
6. Psoriasis can be worsened by scratching, sun burn or by rough clothing.
7. Psoriasis causes more problem when you are overweight, so it is very important that you lose weight in order to be comfortable.
