A question lots of women (and males, as well) ponder, is whether it is actually conceivable to actually reduce or remove stretch marks. Unfortunately, the reality, is that a good portion of stretch marks can’t be erased once they’ve formed – depressing, I know, yet its true! However, take note I said “most” stretch marks. There are stretch marks which can be eradicated, however it necessitates surgery. In the case of people who have lost large amounts of body weight, or who post pregnancy have an abundance of baggy skin, surgical removal of that skin (often containing stretch marks) is conceivable.
Importantly though, for a majority of people, stretch marks will remain, only because surgery just is not really a reasonable choice unless it is really important. Importantly though, there is a stretch mark therapy or two, to suit your needs. They have been proved effective in cutting down the visual appearance of stretch marks, even to the point where the stretch mark is only evident under close observation.
I will start-off by briefly talking about laser therapy treatments to reduce stretch marks. Stretch marks in their initial stages can routinely be treated really efficiently using a pulsed dye laser therapy. Aged stretchmarks, which exhibit a combination of both whitening of the skin and thinning of the skin, do not respond as well to this kind of laser treatment. Importantly though, there is a effective laser therapy called the Xtrac laser and ReLume light source, which has been created for the treatment of older stretch marks (particularly the white skin). What the laser typically does, is to emit short strong pulses of UV light, which encourage the pigment-producing cells of the skin to develop melanin. This results in a darkening of the skin impacted by the stretch mark. This is normally effective in bringing the color of the stretch mark closer to the natural skin color.
What about ‘bought online’ products? There are a lot of products on the market that profess to have an effect on stretch marks. Many are a little expensive, even so, the results have altogether been reasonably disappointing for most users. The best working skin treatments appear to be those containing vitamin A derivatives (like Retin A). Another skin treatment which is supposed to show results is emu oil (an oil derived from the flightless Australia bird). Naturally, if you are a vegetarian or disapprove of animal testing, then this treatment probably is not really one you’re going to want to go for.
So what likely could you expect from any stretch mark remedies? first, I’d suggest that you don’t ever count on miracles. The best case I’ve ever seen of stretch mark removal came from abdominoplasty (also called a tummy tuck) where the skin was removed and then tightened. Importantly though, I’ve seen reasuring results from a number of other treatments, which resulted in the fading and diminishing of the visual signs of stretch marks. I would suggest that if you have stretch marks you want to improve the appearance of, begin with the milder treatments, and if the results you experience aren’t to your liking, then contemplate seeing a dermatologist or plastic surgeon about your necessities.
