You may not have heard of the condition called Asian flush also known as alcohol red face. This is just another term for an allergic reaction to alcoholic beverages. If you have this condition, the sensible course of action would be to excuse yourself from drinking when the occasion arises. You should realize though that not drinking at all may prove to be a disadvantage to you. There are some good reasons to try to remedy your allergy condition.
Not everyone relishes taking alcoholic beverages. It’s important to note though that these have become a crucial and sometimes even critical part of culture and society. Anyone who has alcohol flush would testify to how discouraging the condition can be when they’re out trying to have fun with friends or wanting to make new acquaintances. Not being able to drink just leaves you out of the fun and eliminates your chances of forming significant social connections.
Alcohol as a social component isn’t just important on personal fun occasions. A lot of people also need to be able to drink for professional or business reasons. How can you discuss business casually with a new customer or with members of your work team if you can’t drink like everyone else? Obviously, not drinking in front of a crucial business contact because you have Asian flush can appear impolite. That is unless you take the chance to explain your embarrassing condition.
You might want to take one common option when it comes to alcohol allergy. You can try to forget about it and just drink. The first few sips may not give you any serious problems but you will not be able to drink more than a glass before your appearance changes. There is no doubt that the people you are with will notice and conclude that you aren’t a good drinker.
It’s probably safest not to try to cover up your alcohol flush. A couple of glasses are just not worth the risk. This is because you have more to worry about than just swelling and a change in facial color. At first, the shift in skin color may seem a bit cute but this can soon be followed by hives and rashes that can itch a lot. On top of these are thumping headaches, nausea and some difficulty in breathing. These aren’t the sensations you’d want to experience in a bar.
It’s clear that getting treatment is crucial. As you may have already suspected though, it isn’t easy finding a solution to your problem. The main reason for this is that the causal element is biological in nature. The symptoms are really the effect of not having one critical enzyme in your system. This enzyme normally works by handling the toxic element in alcohol so without it the toxins build up in your body the more you drink. The most appropriate solution is one that can get to the root cause.
It definitely is unflattering, unattractive and uncomfortable to have to live with Asian flush. If you don’t look for a way to address your condition, it’s not just the physical discomforts you’d have to live with. You also have to live with the idea that you are far more likely than people who can drink to miss out on the fun and opportunities made available by social drinking.
