Detoxification is a bodily process that rids health threatening toxins from our bodies. These are then excreted. Harmful toxic substances include metals such as lead, mercury, nickel and aluminum. Our body’s detoxification tools consist of the liver, lungs, colon, gallbladder, kidneys, skin, lymph and blood. Undergoing detox can assist your body to eliminate toxins and waste in order for your organs and other systems to work more efficiently.

There are many kinds of detox programs and you can choose the one that suits you. Your main aim is to address any problems you are experiencing such as constipation, allergies, fatigue and certain skin problems. When you detox, your body has a chance to recover from the pollutants you subject it to.

Check with your doctor before going on a detox regime. Set a date and be mentally prepared for the detox. It is best to start your program when you not likely to have any great demand on yourself physically or emotionally. You can look forward to feeling healthier and have more energy.

Start a week before the cleansing by gradually cutting out all kinds of food and drink that contain caffeine, additives and artificial flavorings. Avoid foods with sugar and any preservatives. Invest in a liquidizer if you do not have one. Stock up on the raw foods that you will need.

Start by eating all fruit and vegetables raw. Drink as much homemade fruit and vegetable juice as you like. Remember to also drink lots of water, which can help prevent unpleasant side effects. Headaches and slight stomach problems are usual, often due to caffeine withdrawal.

Take time to prepare your raw food meals by making interesting food combinations. Mix fruit with vegetables and add some seeds and nuts. Drink lots of water as well as vegetable and fruit juices.

Munch on carrots, broccoli and celery sticks if you are feeling hungry. Drink vegetable and fruit juices made by yourself so that you know they don’t contain salt, sugar or preservatives. You can make a soup of various vegetables, which is also nutritious and delicious.

No detox regime is complete without including exercise. Exercise helps the body with the elimination process, so is vital. You do not need to do rigorous physical exercise. Try swimming, cycling or walking every day, and enjoy being outdoors. If you can afford it, have a professional massage while on your program.

Not every detox diet requires you to use supplements or vitamins. You can take herbal supplements, such as milk thistle, which helps cleanse the gallbladder and liver. You can also get powdered vegetable supplements that contain different vitamins if you feel you need them.

The amount of fluid one consumes on a body cleanse detox has a huge positive effect. With the raw food, the body has a chance to regenerate itself. It can often mean that you are able to give up or cut down on harmful addictions, such as too much alcohol, nicotine and sugar. You will feel physically and mentally recharged after the full body cleanse. Aim to repeat it at least 3 – 4 times a year.
